Redcliffe State High School has partnered with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to deliver the QUTeach@Redcliffe.
What is QUTe@ch Redcliffe High?
• The program is directly aimed at students wanting to become teachers and their studies commence in Year 11. QUTeach@Redcliffe is part of the students’ Senior Education & Training plan and contributes two advanced credits per semester towards their Queensland Certificate of Education.
•The QUTeach@Redcliffe program has been developed to provide extensive support for students to ensure those enrolled in the course have the best chance of succeeding.
• QUTeach@Redcliffe students study at Redcliffe State High School (RSHS) after school, two days each week rather than travel off the peninsula once or twice a week as is the case with other early entry pathways that are on offer.
• RSHS teachers are the tutors for the QUTeach@Redcliffe program and are supported by QUT Faculty of Education staff to deliver the course.
• Instead of being targeted at individual students, QUTeach@Redcliffe has a class enrolment of 25 students. As such, students have support from their peers as well as their teachers, unlike the traditional headstart models.
• This group of students will complete three units of work over their senior phase of schooling. These units are credited to the student and it takes off nearly a full semester’s work load once they commence university. From our 2009 intake, students will study four semester units over Years 11 and 12.
• Students attend a QUT campus for one day each semester to get a feel for university life. This makes a great transition for students as they enter university knowing they have successfully completed three course units and understand how university operates.
•QUT has waived all tuition fees – students pay only for print materials. Students have a QUT student card; they have access to all the facilities of QUT and receive all their lecture and tutorial notes online.
•Students who pass their university subjects and complete Year 12 are automatically guaranteed entry into a START QUT degree course.
•If students decide they are not going to pursue teaching as a career, QUT have arranged a wide selection of alternative courses for students to transfer into when they have finished the QUTeach program.
